Granville County Veterans Services Officer A.J. Spiess Honored by Board of Commissioners

During the April 20 meeting of the Granville County Board of Commissioners, Albert “A.J.” Spiess received a proclamation from Commissioner Russ May on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. May serves as the board’s liaison to the Veterans Affairs Committee. Spiess joined Granville County in 2022 after a 26-year career in the United States Navy, where he rose to the rank of Senior Chief serving on the USS Butte, USS Simpson, USS Briscoe, USS Truman, USS Harpers Ferry, and USS Wasp. Spiess completed seven deployments before he retired from the Navy. In his four years with Granville County as Veterans Services Technician and Veterans Services Officer, Spiess worked hard to improve relationships with partner organizations and to ensure that every Veteran and their families received their entitled services and benefits from the state and federal governments. Spiess will retire from public service at the end of April, bringing his total years of service to the Navy and Granville County to thirty years.
