It was reconstituted on 1 January 1871 in Ancona with four veteran battalions of the Independence Campaigns, the VI, XIII, XIX and XXI, all coming from the 1st Regiment. Once the XXI had lost its strength and the other battalions were renumbered as I, II and III, it contributed to the formation of units included in the Eritrean Campaigns. Engaged with over a thousand men in Libya in 1911-12, he faced the Great War with the ranks completed by a cyclist battalion. On the line in '15 in the Conca di Plezzo, on the Carso in '16, on the Isonzo, the Vodice, the Bainsizza in '17, the Regiment closed the First World War on the Sasso Rosso in 1918. Reorganized in 1923 into the Cyclist Regiment, it maintained the VI and XIII Battalions alive. Fully employed in the Spanish war, the Regiment operated as part of the "Emanuele Filiberto Testa di Ferro" Celere Division in Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Croatia, then with the "Pricipe Amedeo duca d'Aosta" it left for the Russian front in 1942. Having returned to Italy with two Gold Medals for the Flag in April 1943, on 1 July 1943 it became the 6th Motorized Bersaglieri Regiment. It dissolved on 8 September 1943 following the Armistice. On 1 October 1969, the VI Bersaglieri Battalion was reconstituted as part of the 22nd "Cremona" Armored Infantry Regiment, under which it remained until 20 October 1975. Once the Regiment was disbanded as a result of the 1975 restructuring, the Battalion based in Turin took on its name of the 6th Bersaglieri Battalion "Palestro" and is part of the 3rd Mechanized Brigade "Goito" of the "Centauro" Division. As part of the 1985 restructuring, the Battalion was placed in the "Quadro" position and therefore abolished on 31 May 1991. On 16 September 1992, the 6th Bersaglieri Regiment was reconstituted on the 6th Bersaglieri Battalion "Palestro" in Solbiate Olona, for the transformation of the pre-existing 10th Bersaglieri Battalion "Bezzecca". The Regiment participated in operations abroad and at home which saw the Armed Forces involved. Progressively reduced in personnel at the Bologna headquarters, it was reconstituted at the Trapani headquarters on 15 April 2005 due to the renaming of the pre-existing 12th Bersaglieri Regiment.
