That’s alright because it’s not a great knife grinder, and there are a lot more grinders out on the market right now that are way, way better, even if they’re a little more expensive. Since this video, I’ve taken the motor off this grinder and used it to power a shop-made 2x72” belt grinder with a vertical platen, which is much easier to do accurate grinds on AND has more widely available belts. Check out my newer videos to see it in action. If you want to make knives on a small scale, I recommend Aaron Gough’s file jig (search his name on youtube and it’ll come up). If you want to make larger knives, I recommend the 2x72, either bought or made. KMG is the gold standard, but you can also find lower-priced alternatives like the Coote grinder, and I think Grizzly makes one that works okay. There are also several different instruction sets and kits, like the no-weld grinder plans from usaknifemaker or the grinder-in-a-box from Polar Bear Forge. It’s probably the single biggest expense in starting a knifemaking shop, aside from a heat treat oven if you want one, but it’s worth it.
