Between endless climbs, surreal viewpoints, hidden waterfalls and lots of banter, we experienced one of those days when cycling ceases to be just a sport and becomes a transformation. Canastra demands, challenges, excites… and rewards. There were people overcoming their fear of descents for the first time. There were tears at the top of the mountain, video calls from family in the middle of the ride. There were hugs, encouragement and that energy that only those who experience an expedition understand. “I’ve never gone down a slope like this in my life.” “Videos can’t capture the true beauty of this place.” And they really can’t. We passed through the Caminho do Céu (Heaven's Path), tackled the climbs of Canastra, had lunch at Queijaria do Gavião (Hawk's Cheese Shop) with the famous macaroni and cheese, music, guitar, laughter, and, at the end of the day, we wrapped it all up at a private waterfall at our inn.
