JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Rumors have emerged that honorary teachers will no longer be able to teach in public schools after December 31, 2026. The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, explained that the issue is related to the implementation of Law Number 20 of 2023 concerning the State Civil Apparatus (ASN). In response to this controversy, the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education stated that the recruitment of non-ASN staff is targeted for completion by the end of 2024. However, the 2024 ASN and PPPK selection process has not fully accommodated all honorary staff, including limited positions, resulting in some remaining part-time until 2025. After that, the personnel system is expected to recognize only one category: ASN. Retno Listyarti, Chair of the Expert Council of the Indonesian Teachers' Union Federation, believes that local governments need to take responsibility, especially regarding payments, given the ongoing teacher shortage. Meanwhile, Lalu Hardian Irfani, Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the PKB faction, emphasized the importance of cross-institutional coordination, from relevant ministries, the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPAN-RB), the National Civil Service Agency (BKN), to regional governments to find comprehensive solutions.
