Bridging gender gaps in agrifood systems

“I see myself as a head of a family and not just as a woman with no power in the agrifood systems,” Mrs Phyllis Nduva a fruit farmer in eastern Kenya’s Makueni County, Kenya boldly tells us as she narrates her journey as a woman farmer. Other than being a farmer, she demonstrates that women can offer good leadership if given the opportunity and resources. She doubled up as the chairperson at the Makueni Fruit processors Cooperative Society where they have trained and empowered over 10,000 farmers 60 per cent of whom are women. In this video, our reporter, Christine Ochogo captures key moments of Phyllis work in her farm in Makueni, eastern Kenya. #mesha #womeninagriculture #genderequality #womenempowerment #womenleadership #AgriFoodSystems #sustainablefarming #foodsecurity #makueni #kenyafarming #africanfarmers #fruitfarming #agricultureinnovation #mobilejournalism #sciencejournalismafrica
