Changing Gears
Mountain biking has always been about more than just the ride. It’s about exploration, confidence, community, and the simple joy of being outside. This new short film has been created to inspire riders to take the next step in their journey, becoming a mountain bike leader. For many riders, the first spark starts with a great ride: the sound your tyres, the rhythm of a flowing trail, and the feeling of reaching somewhere wild and beautiful under your own power. But imagine being able to share that experience with others, guiding friends or new riders, through landscapes that leave a lasting impression. That’s what mountain bike leadership is all about. Mountain bike leaders play a vital role in helping others discover the sport. They create welcoming, supportive environments where riders can build skills, confidence, and a deeper connection with the outdoors. Becoming a leader means turning your passion for riding into something that inspires others. Scotland offers one of the most inspiring places in the world to begin that journey. With some of the most progressive access laws anywhere, riders have the freedom to explore a vast network of trails across forests, hills, and open landscapes. From quiet woodland trails to big mountain adventures, the opportunity to guide others through these environments is truly special. Leadership allows riders to introduce others to places they might never have discovered on their own. This very special new film created by Ben Davies as part of the first Fresh Cuts Programme (a programme delivered by Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland, Cut Media and Screen Scotland), celebrates the landscapes, freedom, and sense of community that mountain bike leadership can bring. It creatively invites riders to imagine themselves not just as participants, but as guides, people who help others discover the joy of riding through and experiencing incredible places. If you’ve ever thought about taking your riding further, this could be the start of that journey. Because sometimes the best rides aren’t just the ones you take, they are the ones you share.
