According to local residents, the property was allegedly built on encroached land. They approached the court, following which a demolition drive was carried out on Saturday morning under a court order. Municipal workers were present during the operation. Residents claimed that Papai Ghosh had been living at the garden house for nearly three years and alleged that gatherings with food and loud music often continued late into the night. The house of Papai Ghosh's elder sister is located adjacent to the property. Family members there stated that they have had no contact with him since the elections.
