Art Under Pressure: The First Six Caetano Veloso Albums (1967-73)

In this episode, Tony tries to relate to the splendor, magic and vibe of the first, all very different, Caetano Veloso solo records. Tony does not share the same opinion as many who place Tranza at the top, he is more fascinated by the environment in which these records were created and the choices to bring his art to fruition on each individual project. Tranza, in Tony's opinion, is the most non Brazillian sounding record CV made in the period. He doesn't know why anyone wants him to assimilate him to the English singer songwriter sound. All six records are completely different and amazing in their own right, and he thinks its very important to try to understand them in the circumstances in which they were made including where he was living, and his never ending clashes with the Brazilian government. Please in no way look at Tony as any expert on Brazilian or Tropicalian music, but he has marinated himself in this period of Veloso's records that they have certainly been very impactful on his musical perspective.
