Candat Sotong / Squid Jigging / Ikametal - 1 May 2026

Welcoming the 2026 squid jigging season with a trip off the coast of Marang in the South China Sea. We departed the jetty at 5pm and by the time we headed back around 7am I had caught around 117 squid. Not a bad start to the season. My fishing setup this round consisted of: 1. Rod: Daiwa Emeraldas MX Ikametal OR63MLS-S/W. 2. Reel: Daiwa Emeraldas RX LT2500 3. Line: Daiwa UVF Emeraldas DURA sensor x4 No. 0.8 This is my second time squid jigging/ikametal/candat sotong and it's been a rewarding hobby. Bringing back fresh squid for the family and hanging out with the boys has been great.
