Four sons of Harkis, living in a housing project for immigrants in the south of France, are searching for their roots and their identity. To do so, they want to understand their parents' hidden past. They form the thread of this program: in a screening room, they watch a film. Five witnesses speak: a conscripted second lieutenant of Alsatian origin recounts, through a moving story, how he was caught in the trap of this pacification campaign, where torture was commonplace. He is now involved in politics. A putschist commander, General SAINT MARC, a traditional officer, a graduate of Saint-Cyr, a member of the Resistance, a deportee, and a legionnaire, recounts how his loyalty to the army led him to join the OAS and describes his participation in the putsch, which earned him a 10-year prison sentence, half of which he served. A Parisian intellectual, an arms courier for the FLN, explains his approach: "There is no absolutely just cause," and responds to accusations of treason leveled against him, calling it "positive treason." A pied-noir, who remained in Algeria until 1968, recounts how he experienced the break and was led to support the OAS, while also saving four young Arab children from a racist attack. A SAS (Special Administrative Section) officer, Yvon DURAND, speaks of his commitment, the Harkis, and the Morazni (Muslims in the French army) whom he cared for after the war.
