¿A qué suena Venezuela? | El paisaje sonoro de un país

What does Venezuela sound like? The roar of a motorcycle in traffic? The drums of the coast? The harp of the Llanos? Or the cries of macaws at dawn? In this episode of CriolloSapiens, we explore a question we rarely ask ourselves: what does Venezuela sound like, and what do these sounds tell us about who we are? We journey through the soundscapes that have accompanied the country's history to understand how geography, culture, and daily life have shaped a profoundly Venezuelan acoustic identity. We investigate what Venezuela sounds like in its different regions. Because there isn't just one Venezuelan sound. The country changes rhythm as you travel from the Llanos to the coast, from the Andes to Guayana, from small towns to big cities. Each place has its own sounds, silences, and ways of relating to its surroundings. We also explore the evolution of Venezuelan music and the history of its rhythms, from the traditional expressions born from the encounter between Indigenous, African, and European cultures, to the most recent transformations of our musical landscape. But this episode goes beyond music. It's an exploration of the sounds of our cities, our natural landscapes, our celebrations, our silences, and all those small sonic traces that make up the Venezuelan soundscape. Because countries aren't just seen. They're also heard. What sound makes you think of Venezuela the most? Let us know in the comments. 🙏 Thanks to Vatel for supporting this second season of CriolloSapiens. 💛 And if you'd like to help us continue producing conversations like this, you can support us on Patreon.
