Built by Copper, DESTROYED by Fire: The Ghost Town of Anyox
#britishcolumbia #anyox #granby Phoenix BC Video: • Canada’s Lost City in the Sky: The Rise an... Tucked deep in the rugged wilderness of British Columbia’s west coast once stood a thriving industrial marvel—Anyox, a remote copper town powered by one of Canada’s tallest dams and home to 3,000 people at its peak. Founded in the early 1900s after the discovery of a rich copper deposit in Granby Bay, Anyox was more than a mining camp—it was a modern, self-sufficient company town boasting electric lights, telephones, and even flush toilets long before most Canadian cities. Built and operated by the Granby Consolidated Mining Company, the Anyox operation became the largest of its kind in the world, moving thousands of tons of copper ore daily with its own rail system, power plants, and steamship port. But by 1935, the boom was over. A miners' strike, economic decline, and a devastating forest fire erased the town from the map. Today, only the ruins remain—concrete skeletons and a towering dam—silent witnesses to one of Canada's most ambitious forgotten towns. Join us as we uncover the rise and fall of Anyox, the hidden city built on copper and steam. Thank you for watching! If you enjoy videos like this, why not consider becoming a subscriber.
