Myth-busting @ the IAS Person-Centred Care Advocacy Academy in Paris

Discover how the International AIDS Society Person-Centred Care Advocacy Academy is strengthening HIV advocacy in Europe. Through the Paris edition, advocates are learning to advance person-centred care (PCC) approaches and ensure healthcare systems reflect the real needs of people living with HIV. One part of our work is challenging myths that hold back PCC. About the IAS Person-Centred Care Advocacy Academy (Europe): The IAS Person-Centred Care Advocacy Academy in Paris, France, brought together advocates to engage in interactive workshops focused on advancing person-centred HIV care in Europe. Organized by IAS – the International AIDS Society – in partnership with local stakeholders, the academy strengthens advocacy skills and builds momentum for a more responsive, equitable HIV response. About the Person-Centred Care programme: The Person-Centred Care programme, initiated by the IAS in 2021, improves health services by prioritizing the integration of health concerns and the responsiveness of healthcare services. This is to meet the changing needs, priorities and preferences of each person living with or affected by HIV. It emphasizes healthcare that empowers clients and is shaped by the many aspects of people’s intersectional identities, such as gender, age, sexuality and socioeconomic status. ✨ IAS Person-Centred Care programme in action: 🔹Builds consensus around the concept of person-centred care to support person-centred approaches; specific focus areas include harm reduction, ageing with HIV, sexual and reproductive health and rights (including sexually transmitted infections) and tuberculosis 🔹Equips healthcare providers with the skills and motivation to provide services that respond to the complex health needs and preferences of their clients 🔹Documents and disseminates good practice models of person-centred care 🔹Strengthens the evidence base to inform delivery of integrated high-quality person-centred healthcare services 🔹Empowers people living with and affected by HIV to demonstrate improved ability to demand person-centred care, including treatment and prevention services 📣 Get involved: Together, we can create a world where person-centred care is at the forefront of healthcare.
