Friedrichstadt, located in Schleswig-Holstein, is called "Dutchtown" or "Little Amsterdam." When I visited this town, I thought I was somewhere in Holland. Friedrichstadt was founded in 1621 by Duke Friedrich III of Schleswig-Holstein. He wanted to establish a trading metropolis here, and to do so, he brought Dutch citizens. Many persecuted Remonstrants came to the town, to whom Frederick granted religious freedom. Other religious communities also settled in Friedrichstadt. Thus, the town also earned the name "City of Tolerance." For us RVers, in short, the spacious campsite couldn't be better located. The historic center of the Dutch town, the Old Harbor, and the Eider Dike are in the immediate vicinity. I would go back there in a heartbeat.
