(More Colonnade reviews at links below) About this car: This 1973 Pontiac Grand Am was slated to be the future of the muscle car. Proof for that lies in that it was originally going to be the GTO, but marketing forces at Pontiac wanted to look toward the future, and way from the past. The real car guys at Pontiac wanted this car to have a more complete package - styling, luxury, power, and handling. And they almost pulled it off. What threw the brakes on it was forces beyond their control - gas shortages, Federal mandates, economic downturns - things that led buyers away from the no compromises cars of the 1960s and early 1970s to machines more focused on economy or safety, not to mention the rise of European and Asian imports. The Grand Am was an incredibly cool car that was over before it began, and it's interesting and even a bit melancholy to think about what might have been if it had all gone a bit differently.
