Inside the Heroic Missions of Police Water and Diving Services

The Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS) is a specialized unit within the South African Police Service dedicated to responding to various water-related emergencies nationwide. Their mission encompasses underwater body recoveries, search and rescue operations, crime scene dives, and assistance during flood incidents. WPDS units are strategically positioned throughout South Africa, and today, our focus is on the Gauteng province. One of the most emotionally challenging missions this year involved the WPDS being deployed to Centurion after three constables from the Free State province went missing while en route to Limpopo. During this operation, the Water Police and Diving Services collaborated closely with Search and Rescue teams, Forensics, and local authorities to provide closure to the families and honour their fallen colleagues. Whether recovering a lost life or rescuing someone in distress, the WPDS consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty.
