Lesson22, Part1| DIPTOTES and TRIPTOTES in Arabic | الممنوع من الصرف | Madina Book 1
In Lesson 22, Part 1 we will dive into the concept of diptotes which we call الممنوع من الصرف in Arabic. First, we will look at 4 situations when tanween, also known as the nun ending, is omitted. 1. When the ISM starts with the article AL indicating its definiteness, for example السياره و الباب. 2. When the noun is MUDOF, for instance باب السياره , the door of the car. 3. When the noun comes after حرف الندى يا . For example : يا استاذُ o teacher , ُيا ولد o boy. 4. The diptotes الممنوع من الصرف do not accept TANWEEN even in their indefinite نكرة form. In this lesson we will focus on Diptotes. On page 118, Dr Abdul Rahim رحمه الله provided us with an essential list of categories and patterns of ISM that belong to الممنوع من الصرف. We will go through this list and learn these patterns. Exercise 1 is a good way to practice how to identify diptotes. In this exercise, we need to determine if the word is a diptote or a regular ISM which we can refer to as a TRIPTOTE. And based on that finding we will write the proper ending of these words.
