HGGSP - Environnement : exploitation et protection 4/4 - Climat, enjeu des relations internationales

The environment is one of the major themes of the final year HGGSP curriculum and may be the subject of commentaries or essays on the baccalaureate exam. Climate issues and international cooperation are the fourth part of this curriculum. In this video, Tanguy explores the international community's growing awareness of the climate emergency and the challenges it poses for global governance. We analyze the evolution of climate governance since the 1970s, through key moments such as the Earth Summit in Stockholm and the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol, to the Paris Agreements, highlighting the notion of sustainable development born of the Brundtland Report. We also discuss the role of states, the UN, NGOs, and other non-state actors in fostering sustainable development and combating climate change, highlighting the importance of multilateralism and the obstacles encountered, such as unilateralism and climate skepticism. By highlighting the growing importance of new actors—from NGOs to youth movements like Fridays for Future—we illustrate the dynamics of civil society and its influence on climate policies.
