In the evening, the British used to drink alcohol, dance and sing here and have fun. The entry of locals was prohibited in this club except for English officials, employees, and doormen. The signboard here read "Dogs and Indians Prohibited". On April 18, 1930, one of the plans of the Chittagong Youth Rebellion was to attack the European Club, but the club was closed because it was Good Friday. Then on 10 August 1932, a group of seven people led by Shaileshwar Chakraborty tried to attack the club but failed. The following month, Masterda Surya Sen decided to attack the club again, and on 23 September, a group led by Pritilata Waddedar, disguised as a man and wearing a turban, attacked the European Club at around 10:45 pm. An English woman named Mrs. Sullivan was killed in the attack, and four men and seven women were injured. After the attack on the club, the revolutionaries came out, Pritilata Waddedar was injured in the British counterattack and committed suicide by consuming cyanide due to fear of being arrested by the British.
