Tashkent is a city that surprised me far more than I expected. Before this trip, I knew exactly three things about it: they eat a lot of plov, thousands of white Chevrolets cruise the streets, and Soviet buildings are decorated with beautiful mosaics. And yes, all of that turned out to be true. But Tashkent is so much more. In this episode, we'll stroll through the city's modern districts, peer into old mahallas, admire unique Soviet mosaics, and try to understand how the 1966 earthquake changed Tashkent's fate. After the disaster, the city essentially had to be rebuilt from scratch. I'll show you one of the most beautiful metro systems in the entire post-Soviet space, explain why so many Chevrolets drive on Uzbekistan's roads, visit the ancient Kukeldash Madrasah, and talk to locals about life in Uzbekistan.
