(4K) ROTTERDAM "OVERSCHIE" BY BIKE (The Netherlands) (P 1) - Cycling through Rotterdam Neighborhoods

Afgelopen zomer (2022) fietste ik door de Rotterdamse deelgemeente Overschie. Overschie wordt doorsneden door de rijksweg A13 (Den Haag - Rotterdam). Ik begin te filmen bij de Hoge Brug aan de Overschieseweg in het zuidelijke deel (van de rijksweg A13) wat tevens het oudste deel is met prachtige oude panden. *In deel 2 fiets ik door het Noordelijke van de A13 gelegen gedeelte van de wijk. Overschie is een voormalige gemeente in Zuid-Holland. De naam Overschie wordt reeds in de tiende eeuw genoemd ('Ouwer Schie'), toen het dorp een kleine nederzetting in een groot moerasgebied was. In Overschie komen de vier wateren bij elkaar die alle vier kortweg met Schie worden aangeduid: De Delfshavense Schie, de Delftse Schie, de Rotterdamse Schie en de Schiedamse Schie. De Schie werd een belangrijke transportroute in de dertiende eeuw, toen de Schielands Hoge Zeedijk werd aangelegd tussen Vlaardingen en Gouda, waarbij twee havens werden gecreëerd bij de Schie en de Rotte. De eerste werd belangrijk voor de ontwikkeling van Overschie, de tweede voor die van Delfshaven (Delfts Haven geeft aan dat deze haven belangrijk was voor de stad Delft). De Schiedamse Schie dateert uit ca. 1250. In 1340 kreeg de stad Rotterdam toestemming om een kanaal te graven tussen het centrum en Overschie: De Rotterdamse Schie. De Delfshavense Schie werd in 1389 gegraven. Tijdens de Hoekse en Kabeljauwse twisten kreeg Overschie het zwaar te verduren. Het lag tussen het Kabeljauwse Delft en het Hoekse Rotterdam en is afwisselend door beide partijen ingenomen, waarbij relatief veel inwoners het leven lieten. De kerk en een aantal huizen werd in 1489 in brand gestoken toen de Rotterdammers het dorp weer moesten opgeven. Terwijl de plaatsen rond Overschie groeiden, is de plaats zelf altijd klein gebleven. Uiteindelijk is Overschie in augustus 1941 door de buurgemeente Rotterdam geannexeerd. *** Last summer (2022) I cycled through the Rotterdam sub-municipality of Overschie. Overschie is intersected by the A13 national road (The Hague - Rotterdam). I start filming at the Hoge Brug on the Overschieseweg in the southern part (of the A13 highway) which is also the oldest part with beautiful old buildings. *In part 2 I cycle through the northern part of the district located on the A13. Overschie is a former municipality in South Holland. The name Overschie is already mentioned in the tenth century ('Ouwer Schie'), when the village was a small settlement in a large swamp area. In Overschie, the four waters come together, all four of which are simply referred to as Schie: Delfshavense Schie, Delftse Schie, Rotterdamse Schie and Schiedamse Schie. The Schie became an important transport route in the thirteenth century, when the Schielands Hoge Zeedijk was built between Vlaardingen and Gouda, creating two harbors at the Schie and the Rotte. The first became important for the development of Overschie, the second for that of Delfshaven (Delfts Haven indicates that this port was important for the city of Delft). The Schiedamse Schie dates from around 1250. In 1340 the city of Rotterdam received permission to dig a canal between the center and Overschie: The Rotterdamse Schie. The Delfshavense Schie was dug in 1389. Overschie had a hard time during the Hoekse and Kabeljauwse quarrels. It was located between the Codfish in Delft and the Hoekse Rotterdam and was taken alternately by both parties, whereby a relatively large number of residents lost their lives. The church and a number of houses were set on fire in 1489 when the people of Rotterdam had to give up the village again. While the places around Overschie grew, the place itself has always remained small.
