In the thirteenth episode of the series "Treasures of the Old Polish Land," we explore the history of the bloomeries of the Świętokrzyskie region – one of the oldest and largest iron production centers in ancient Europe. Over two thousand years ago, hundreds of blast furnaces, known as bloomeries, were built in the area of ​​today's Świętokrzyskie Mountains. These small furnaces smelted iron ore, which formed the basis of the development of ancient communities. Iron production utilized bog iron, charcoal, and simple clay furnaces. The smelting process took many hours, producing a solid mass of iron, which was then crafted into tools and weapons. In this film, we show the process of smelting iron in bloomeries, the locations of the most important metallurgical centers, and why the Świętokrzyskie region was one of the most important centers of metallurgy in ancient Europe. The series "Treasures of the Old Polish Land" uncovers the history of the earth's natural resources – from the Stone Age, through the first mines and ancient minerals, to the development of metallurgy and industry.
