Telegram - https://t.me/loftravengo Instagram - / loftravengo Today we're talking about Vladimir Sorokin's story "Nastya." I've been planning a series of episodes about Sorokin for a while, but I couldn't decide where to start. Should I start with his trump cards and something relevant, or with a smooth introduction to his work without delving into postmodernist depths? Of course, there will be "Blue Lard" with Norma, and "The Ice Trilogy" and "The Snowstorm" with Doctor Garin, and even a separate episode about Vladimir Georgievich himself, but today we'll attend a feast at the Sablin family. Since this is our introductory episode, let's begin with a few basic facts about the author: Sorokin is a writer, artist, screenwriter, and playwright. He was one of the most prominent representatives of conceptualism and Sots Art in Russian literature. Winner of the Andrei Bely, NOS, and Bolshaya Kniga awards, among others. He was also a Booker Prize nominee. His books have been translated into dozens of languages and have repeatedly become the subject of public debate, including legal proceedings. For me personally, Sorokin is, first and foremost, a magnificent visionary and master of the Russian language. Perhaps the most brilliant living author. One could go on and on about the chill that overwhelms one while reading The Snowstorm or spend a hundred pages describing one's emotions after reading Blue Lard. But we'll return to the praises of style and mastery of the language later. Let me say this right away: Nastya is a microscopic work. You can read it in a couple of hours, so I won't hold back on spoilers. But I also can't recommend it to everyone. This is a rather delicate and complex issue. Who should read Nastya? My opinion is everyone, but at the same time, I understand that many won't like the story. The comments and reviews found on almost any book site are very revealing. The author is threatened with trial and hellfire, given psychiatric diagnoses, cursed, and generally asked not to do it again, or they'll call paramedics, a dog, and the police. If you're an impressionable person, sensitive to the physiological nature of what's happening, and... anatomical details aren't for you, then perhaps you should skip this. But if not, all the warnings have been given. I won't encourage you to grab something to crunch on; the Sablins and their guests will do that for us today.
