California State Route 133 - South

CA-133 is a relatively short but diverse and weird highway that transitions from a tollway to a busy suburban freeway route to a stunning scenic canyon road and then a 2 lane road and ending as a downtown street. The route begins at a complex interchange with CA State Route 241 Toll Road. It Starts as a Toll Road serving as a corridor for toll road commuters traveling between CA-241 Toll and I-5. CA-133 Becomes a Freeway to coastal Laguna Beach and the job centers in Irvine and the broader I-405 corridor. After crossing under the 405, the freeway portion ends. It leaves the urban sprawl of Irvine and enters the protected open spaces of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. The road narrows and officially becomes Laguna Canyon Road. This is where the character of the highway changes dramatically. This is the most famous and picturesque part of CA-133. The two-lane road winds its way through the coastal hills of Laguna Canyon. The landscape is characterized by rolling golden hills, oak woodlands, and dramatic rock outcrops. It's a popular route for cyclists and motorcyclists. This section provides access to numerous hiking trails, park entrances, and the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD). The canyon eventually opens up, and the road descends into the vibrant arts colony of Laguna Beach. It terminates at a signalized intersection with Pacific Coast Highway (CA-1).
