Gyroglider at Erskine Park in Sydney in the mid 1990s Sam getting a lesson with Alan Bridger...
More rescued footage, this time it is the gyroglider at Erskine Park in western Sydney. Sam was getting a lesson in the gyroglider prior to going for a powered lesson in Alan's two seater. Alan was/is an awesome instructor... he was the main 'go to' instructor at Erskine Park whether it be in the glider or powered machines for most of the Erskine Parks use for gyrocopters gyroplanes. A wealth of knowledge! I can't imagine how many pilots Alan taught? Alan... How many do you reckon? It would be amazing to think how many bums have been in that glider... and how many miles that poor old car did pacing up and down the strip... I wonder what became of it? You may notice the big, wide, red rotors on the glider... they were 'McCutchen Sky Wheels' rotors... very wide chord (9 1/4" compared to 7" on most alloy rotors from memory) fiberglass rotors with a huge hub bar that each blade slotted into. Very smooth flying... quite 'springy' for anyone used to flying alloy rotors. High lift from the wider chord also. I think McCutchen was the pioneer of fiberglass rotors? One of the first anyway. Once again, sorry for the poor quality of these videos. They were rescued from well worn VHS tapes... the washed out images and sound bars are unavoidable from the damaged tapes... and the quality loss from transferring to digital. I am putting these videos here more for nostalgia and prosperity, not because I think they are fantastic in any way. They also can give others ideas on what they can build even today. Please like, share, subscribe and hit the bell so you can be notified as I put more footage up. Comments welcome. You can find information on gyrocopters in Australia by looking up A.S.R.A. (Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association) and a good forum http://skywolverines.com/
