Why you never let a SERVICE SHOP restore your air cooled #Porsche Ep1
All Porsche shops are not equal, automotive service shops are typically out of their league when it comes to #restorationwork. Service is a different style mindset, get the car in and out fast, repair one or two broken areas of the car, get the car back to the customer in a few days/weeks. This is fine because these shops keep our cars going. But restoration is far more involved and big picture thinking - management of the project is critical. Some jobs are usually subbed out to other vendors - do you trust the other vendors to do their job properly or do you set up the work so the vendor does it in a way that it will work with you end goal? What happens when one of these service shops takes on an involved restoration - will they go in far enough? If they only scratch the surface and don’t go in far enough then all those little problems the car had will surface again. Remember it is always better to do the job once - saving a little and taking the car to someone you think can do it might end up costing you more than you ever thought in both money and frustration if it all needs to be done a second time. Look at what kind of other work the shop has, do they have multiples of the same air cooled models as your car in their que? Or is their shop full of modern water cooled cars that look nothing like your car? A Porsche of one generation is not the same as another generation - there are numerous different models and platforms through the life of this brand and expertise on a 90s car doesn’t necessarily translate to the 1960s cars. The older the car the more old world knowledge is needed. Not to discredit the few good service shops - there are a few that can handle involved restoration but take this from a guy that has had to redo the work of countless shops that did it wrong - and still charged you for it. #porsche912 #porsche911 #vintagecars #vintageexcellence #vintage #automobile #restoration #germancars My Instagram has years of content: / markallen911 https://www.facebook.com/VintageExcel...
