Robert Talpain: Witness to France’s Anti-Fascist Union | FULL DOC | SLICE WHO

In 1934 and 1935, as fascism advanced across Europe and France’s left remained divided, Robert Talpain stood in the streets with a camera in his hand. A studio chauffeur, socialist activist, amateur photographer and filmmaker, he captured the marches, hopes, tensions and fragile alliances that would lead to the birth of the Popular Front. Through his photographs, films and reconstructed words, this documentary follows one ordinary militant living through an extraordinary political moment. Between anti-fascist protest, working-class commitment, love, cinema and left-wing unity, Robert Talpain’s story offers a rare view of history from below, at the very moment the Popular Front began to take shape.
