Exactly how much does a 5 week campervan Euro roadtrip really cost?

Having just returned from an early retirement, 2000 mile road trip of northern Spain and the French Atlantic coast, we have had so many questions about the cost of such an adventure. We definitely set out to do the whole trip on a budget, but just how much did it really cost? This of course involved some compromises, but we were not willing to compromise on certain things. We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK.
