He famously co-created the band's visual identity by inventing the iconic "Spaceman" (or "Space Ace") persona, known for his celestial makeup, lightning-charged guitar solos, and legendary theatrical special effects like the smoking guitar. Frehley passed away at the age of 74 in Morristown, New Jersey, following complications from a fall. The Kiss Era (1973–1982): Frehley joined Kiss after answering an audition ad in The Village Voice. Alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss, he propelled the band to international superstardom with his highly melodic, blues-infused soloing style.Solo Success (1978): When all four Kiss members released simultaneous solo albums, Frehley's self-titled record ⁠Ace Frehley became the most commercially successful of the four, spawning the hit single "New York Groove".Frehley's Comet & Independent Work: After leaving Kiss due to creative differences and lifestyle clashes, he launched Frehley's Comet in 1987 and enjoyed a productive independent career.
