História das picapes Chevrolets D10 A10 C10 veraneio

The Chevrolet C10 and D10 pickup trucks, as well as the Veraneio, are great icons of Brazilian utility vehicles, starting with the C14 and C15 models, a great success for the brand that led it to leadership in the segment, rivaling the Ford F-1000, starring in a great duel between the brands. The D-10 was recognized for its quality and mechanical robustness, giving rise to the also famous D-20. See now its history and evolution. Chevrolet was one of the first brands to establish itself in Brazil, in 1925 in São Caetano do Sul, launching its first Brazilian pickup truck, the 3100 in 1958, which would become known as the Chevrolet Brasil, with a GM 261 inline six-cylinder gasoline engine, 4.3 liters and 149hp, 3-speed transmission with a column shifter, it also gave rise to the Alvorada double cab version, the Amazona station wagon, and the Corisco van, with bodies manufactured by Brasinca. In the competition, there was the Ford F-100 launched in 1957. In 1964, the second generation of Chevrolet pickups was launched, the C-14 and C-15, consisting of short and long body pickup variants, the double cab and the station wagon that would become known as Veraneio. The engine was the same as the previous one, the GM 261 4.3 149 hp. The pickups were based on the American C/K line, but with an exclusive design for the Brazilian market. Chevrolet had also updated its truck line, which shared the cab design. In 1967, the then C-14 series had its engine recalibrated to generate 151 hp. The name Veraneio became official for the station wagon version, which also had a luxury version. Power steering came in 1971, as well as an update from double to single headlights. In the same year, the first C-14s with 4x4 traction from Engesa arrived. In 1974, the Chevrolet C-14 was renamed simply C-10 for all variations, except for the famous Veraneio. The C-10 also received several modifications to meet the demands of the armed forces, receiving the famous ENGESA all-wheel drive systems. The pickup truck, which had remained unchanged for quite some time, had some more complete versions, including the C-10 Chevy4, with significant aesthetic improvements, the 151 2.5 gasoline engine from the Opala, and a 4-speed transmission, and the Chevy SL, launched in 1978, which is extremely rare and was produced for less than a year. In 1978, with the worsening of the oil crisis, the diesel model finally arrived, the most robust pickup truck in the series, a range of options now with the acronym D-10, which was Chevrolet's first diesel pickup in Brazil, equipped with a Perkins 4236 4-cylinder, 3.9-liter engine, initially with 77 hp, an engine with excellent torque and quality, which would continue to the next generation called the D-20, updated to Q20B4, the same engine also began to equip the Veraneio. The D-10 was identical to the C-10, also available with a double cab, was a leader in the segment, came to represent 70 percent of the series' sales, and would become an icon among pickup truck enthusiasts and a great sales success. Chevrolet had only one equally strong competitor launched shortly after the D-10, the Ford F1000, with significant differences between them, but which starred in one of the best rivalries in the history of the segment. In 1980, the Chevrolet Series 10 gained a new plastic front grille and the brakes became vacuum-powered, with discs at the front. The C-10 began to receive the 250, 4.1-liter engine from the Opala, with gasoline and alcohol options, and the A-10 model was launched, equipped with alcohol versions of the 2.5-liter, 89hp, and 4.1-liter, 122hp engines. The 151 (2.5-liter alcohol-powered with 89hp and the 250 (4.1-liter alcohol-powered with 122hp) was one of the first alcohol-powered vehicles in Brazil, as the first, the Fiat 147, had been launched the previous year. Even though the A-10 model got about 3 km per liter, it sold very well due to its lower price compared to the gasoline model, as well as the lower price of fuel. The 10 series continued until 1985. Before its final discontinuation, GM launched the A-10 with the 20 Series body, but the A-10 would soon become the A-20, coinciding with the launch of the completely new 20 Series, where the A, C, and D-10 models were discontinued. Only the Veraneio continued until 1988, when the Veraneio derived from the 20 Series and the Bonanza arrived. These models were originally created by Brasinca, with the names Passo Fino and Manga-Larga, but due to their success, they were officially incorporated by Chevrolet. Produced between 1964 and 1985, with over 330,000 units sold, even 35 years after the last one left the production line, it is still very common to see several of the pickup truck models in use today, undoubtedly one of the most legendary pickup trucks that ever existed in Brazil.
