SANTOS / SP - Bairro Ponta da Praia

Another trip from our season along the coast of São Paulo. This time in SANTOS / SP at Ponta da Praia, in the Baixada Santista region. Santos is a city in the state of São Paulo. Its inhabitants are called Santistas. The municipality covers 281.1 km² and had 433,311 inhabitants in the last census. The population density is 1,541.7 inhabitants per km² in the municipality's territory. Neighboring the municipalities of São Vicente, Cubatão, and Guarujá, Santos is located 35 km southeast of Mauá. Situated at an altitude of 9 meters, Santos has the following geographical coordinates: Latitude: 23° 57' 42'' South, Longitude: 46° 19' 56'' West. Santos is home to the Serra do Mar State Park. Ponta da Praia is a neighborhood in the city of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil. Its neighboring districts are Estuário (separated by Avenida Affonso Penna) and Aparecida (by Canal 6). Ponta da Praia beach is the smallest in the region. The neighborhood is located between canals 6 and 7, and has a waterfront with views of both the sea and the ships that cross the canal. On Avenida Almirante Saldanha da Gama are located some of the city's main clubs: Internacional, Saldanha da Gama and Vasco da Gama, in addition to the Fishing Museum and the "Fisherman's Deck", a place frequented by fishermen and, sometimes, by observers of the cruise ships that, during the high season, the time of maritime cruises, pass through the Port of Santos. With just over 31,000 inhabitants, Ponta da Praia has grown in the last two decades in the wake of a real estate expansion movement in the Municipality. The residential and commercial characteristics have gained proportion, but the tourist and leisure attractions continue to dominate the landscape. The century-old rowing clubs Internacional, Saldanha, and Vasco are paired with museums such as the Fishing Museum, the Sea and Maritime Museum, the Aquarium, the Fisherman's Deck, and, since 2020, with the attractions of Nova Ponta da Praia, a waterfront renovation program in the neighborhood that created spaces for contemplation, an interactive fountain, new sidewalks, and the construction of the New Fish Market. Besides all these items, the seafront walls are unbeatable in terms of visitation during the season when cruise ships enter and leave the Port. Nova Ponta da Praia has become a leisure hotspot in Santos. The neighborhood, which originated as a colony of Japanese immigrants in the late 19th century, has for years transformed into one of the most prestigious in the city. But now, with the remodeling of Avenida Saldanha da Gama and the creation of the boardwalk, the region has begun to attract many tourists, in addition to the residents of Santos themselves. With the renovation, the old narrow sidewalk, previously frequented mainly by amateur fishermen and street runners, has been transformed into a kind of Santos promenade, which brings together enthusiasts of various sports and leisure activities. Children, young people, the elderly, and entire families have already embraced the new leisure area in Santos, at Ponta da Praia. We wish everyone great entertainment!!!
