Reed Hansuld: Designer & Maker of Fine Furniture

Reed Hansuld is a custom furniture maker based in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn. A self-admitted “slave to the form” he meticulously handcrafts customized, heirloom furniture pieces using both modern and traditional methods. I had the great pleasure of documenting Reed as he made his interpretation of the Hans Wegner valet chair. Says Reed, “When I first saw the Hans Wegner valet chair ,which would have been many years ago, I didn’t think much of it and didn’t really take the time to try to understand more about it. I wasn’t overly wowed or impressed, in fact I thought it had some funny elements to it.
