It has been revealed that there were at least 72 instances of voter counts being corrected by election commissions nationwide on the day of the June 3 local elections. In some regions, the number of voters increased by more than 6,000 at once, and errors were corrected only after 12 hours had passed since the initial entry. According to the "History of Vote Count Correction Reports by Hourly Period" submitted by the National Election Commission to the office of People Power Party Representative Kim Eun-hye, a total of 72 correction reports were filed at 56 out of 255 district, city, and county election commissions nationwide on the day of the local elections. To modify information entered into the election management system, the reason for the correction must be stated in detail. City and provincial election commissions are required to approve the correction after verifying the relevant reason. However, there were quite a few cases in the actual reports where only abstract explanations were written, such as "correction due to omission of entry" or "change in voter count." Incheon's Geomdan-gu initially reported the number of voters as 54,665 as of 4:00 PM, but later changed it to 61,276. This represents an increase of 6,611 people in a single instance. It has also been confirmed that some regions left errors unaddressed for extended periods. Gunpo City in Gyeonggi Province corrected an error in the voter count recorded at 7:00 AM 12 hours later, at 7:00 PM. In Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and Hongseong-gun, South Chungcheong Province, voter counts for different time periods were entered identically and subsequently corrected. The Joint Investigation Headquarters of the Prosecutors and Police is also investigating circumstances in which some National Election Commission (NEC) employees, despite confirming that they had entered voter numbers incorrectly, distributed the inflated figures to other polling stations without following proper correction procedures. The headquarters suspects that the employees exploited the fact that voting statistics are updated every hour to adjust voter counts at other polling stations, and then attempted to eliminate the overall error by reducing the magnitude of the increase in subsequent time periods. It is reported that such circumstances have been detected in two locations in the Gyeonggi region, including Gimpo, and in the Chungcheong region. The Joint Investigation Headquarters is conducting search and seizure operations at the National Election Commission (NEC) and relevant regional election commissions to verify whether undocumented changes to voting statistics occurred in other regions as well.
