She suffers from depression and manic depressive episodes, that include her seeing her long-dead child (played by Phoenyx Hawkins in this clip). Even though this child died as a baby, the wife has imagined him as growing up over the last 17 years, and still being part of the family. Here, the father admits that he too has been haunted by his thoughts of his dead son.
