ESTER EXPÓSITO: "No me importa si mis opiniones acaban cerrándome puertas" | La charla, Hoy por Hoy
A young woman with a lot of talent and a promising future as a cellist attends her best friend's birthday party before auditioning for a prestigious classical music school in Vienna. Her friend's father, a very wealthy and equally influential man, is also the godfather of the protagonist and future classical music star. Everything seems like an ideal, happy setting; the placid, secure life of wealthy, carefree people. But things are not what they seem; because suddenly, everything is shaken; because the protagonist, a rising world reference in the cello world, has neither a financially stable family behind her nor a secure future to cover the prohibitive cost of her master's degree in Vienna. And, above all, because the only person who can save her family (and her father from jail) and guarantee her professional future in music, her godfather (Pedro Casablanc), a family friend who loves them so much, offers to settle this financial debt, but in exchange for a proposal as morally reprehensible as it is unexpected: he wants to see his goddaughter (Ester Expósito) naked. This proposal, with a deadline of only a few hours, centers on the film, co-produced and co-written by Fernando León de Aranoa, directed by Polo Menárguez, and based on Miss Elsa, a novel by Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler, published in 1924. Like that time, harassment, the objectification of women, and the moral adjustment of what is acceptable and what cannot be, are the concerns of this story, which hits theaters this Friday. At the helm of this project is Ester Expósito, the actress who, after her role in the series Élite, viewed and followed around the world thanks to Netflix, became one of the most internationally renowned actresses in our country. "That huge success," reflects Expósito, "helped me know what I should do next. In a way, this film now explains the kind of actress I want to be in the future. I dream," she continues, "of telling stories that inspire other people, far removed from exclusively commercial cinema, because that won't satisfy me." In this conversation, she also admits that "I'm very clear that my opinions or giving a voice to those who don't have one can close some doors for me, but I don't care. My priority isn't success, but rather playing characters that express realities that matter to me." "I," she concludes, "am a person who demands a lot from myself, to the point that if I don't like what I do, then the positive opinions of others no longer matter to me." And regarding her enormous influence on social media, she says, "Maybe when I can make and produce my own films and do whatever I want, I'll close my Instagram account and that's it." The actress of 'When Angels Sleep' or, for example, 'Your Son' defines 'The Talent' as "a thriller that some have classified as a horror film, which is certainly the case for the character I play." And regarding that role, she assures that "it's a story she loved when she read the script more than five years ago, because it's one of those roles you get once in a lifetime." "Really," Ester believes, "what interests me most is the issue of the objectification of the female body, the way many men and society in general today view the female body and nudity. There are still, she points out, people who believe that a woman's body can be bought." In this sense, Expósito firmly clarifies that we live "in an absolutely sexist society, in which there is a significant lack of sexual and feminist education in schools, but also at home, while social media normalizes barbarities and abominable discourse." Expósito wanted to step back from promoting her film in the final minutes to thank the courage and work of the humanitarian flotilla with aid to Gaza, the Global Sumud Flotilla, "for everything they do when they shouldn't be the ones taking on the task of going there and trying to break the blockade on Gaza." #esterexposito #actress #talent #talent #cinema #movie #interview #machismo #objectification #socialmedia #elite #netflix #mediaprostudio #CadenaSER #JoséLuisSastre #radio Follow Àngels Barceló and José Luis Sastre for all the latest news, analysis, and entertainment on the leading Spanish radio show, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 AM to 12:20 PM.
