Rick Wilder's Old Surfboard Collection revealed. (1960's on)
Wednesday 28 September 2022 Somewhere south of Coffs Harbour NSW Australia Rick Wilder and his family lived in a private bushland community south of Coffs Harbour through the 1980's and 90's. He is a collector of surfboards and kept them in a disused timber shed on the large property. He would repair boards there and teach the younger folk of the community the art of surf board design and repair. People could borrow and use the boards on nearby "secret" beaches. In more recent years he has lived more to the north of Coffs Harbour and the shed began to fall apart. There became a need to remove the boards before they were lost to a collapsing roof. Rick is keen to make a surf board library/museum in a nearby community building so today with help some family members (Layla, Rod, Tia, Malia, Alana), the boards were removed for clean up and repair. Just over 100 longboards, transitional, short, knee boards, spoons and the like were removed and taken to more secure locations.
