The National Fiber Optic Network (FON) project, which aimed to bring connectivity to isolated areas of Chile with 10,000 km of fiber optic cable and a one billion peso subsidy, is showing serious shortcomings. Images released reveal deficient infrastructure, such as unprotected power lines and exposed cables. Regions like Antofagasta, Biobío, and Maule exhibit problems such as scattered materials, dangling cables, and a lack of preventative maintenance.
