In this eleventh session on the Bardo Thödol. On the sixth day of the Dharmata Bardo, His Eminence Chogyal Rinpoche explains the moment when the Five Buddha Families appear in radiant union, along with their wisdom lights and retinues of Bodhisattvas. On this day, the deceased encounters powerful luminous lights the manifestation of one’s own Rigpa, the true nature of mind. At the same time, the dim lights of the six realms also arise. This teaching gently guides us to recognize the clear, radiant wisdom lights and not be frightened or distracted by the dim lights that lead back to samsara. Rinpoche explains that all peaceful deities and lights do not come from outside they arise directly from the heart chakra, from one’s own mind. By resting naturally in these luminous appearances without fear or attachment, liberation can occur instantly. This teaching also emphasizes the importance of reducing negative karma while alive, as strong karmic imprints make recognition difficult in the Bardo. Through devotion, prayer to the Five Buddha Families, and resting in awareness, many beings are liberated on this very sixth day.
