Poznaj swojego strażaka: OSP Ciężkowice
The Ciężkowice Volunteer Fire Department is a unit whose history dates back to 1905. For 118 years, it has been ensuring the safety of the residents of the district and the entire Jaworzno area. Meet another Volunteer Fire Department unit from our city. The Ciężkowice Volunteer Fire Department has been serving the residents of the district and our city for 118 years. For them, being a volunteer firefighter means fully dedicating their personal time to the good of the unit. "Personal life takes a back seat when it comes to the Volunteer Fire Department," emphasizes Chief Robert Tarasek. Currently, 63 people are involved in the unit's activities. This number consists of 40 firefighters (12 women, 28 men) and a Youth Fire Department consisting of 23 members (7 girls, 16 boys). Having such a large number of young people involved in the unit is a source of pride and satisfaction, emphasizes Chief Anna Tarasek. It's interesting to note that not all MDP members live in Ciężkowice. Many commute to the unit to actively participate in its activities. Moreover, the unit is the only one in the city that organizes camps for young people, during which they not only develop their firefighting skills but also bond with one another and deepen their relationships. The president emphasizes, however, that being a volunteer firefighter is not a game, but rather hard work that requires a lot of determination and study. You must pass all the exams, including the smoke chamber, that make up the basic course. Only after passing this exam and obtaining good medical results can you become a volunteer firefighter and deploy. They have two vehicles on hand: one used for quartermaster duties, the other for field operations. Interestingly, the deployment vehicle has a capacity of 4,500 liters of water, which is the maximum capacity of two vehicles combined. The vehicles are new and regularly deployed. The quartermaster vehicle was used, for example, to deliver donations to refugees from Ukraine. The most challenging operations they participated in included a fire at a company in Pieczyska and a fire at a scrapyard. Both incidents were long-term operations requiring a tremendous amount of work. What can we wish them for the coming years of service? "Above all, I hope passionate people come to the unit," says Chief Anna Tarasek. Family traditions are very important to members of the Ciężkowice Volunteer Fire Department, which is why they welcome entire families who join their ranks with open arms. The Volunteer Fire Department also wanted to thank the city and the Commander of the State Fire Service in Jaworzno for their joint efforts and successful cooperation to date.
