Jonni Skinner – Transitioned at 13

Jonni Skinner grew up in rural Michigan as an autistic and very effeminate boy who experienced bullying and isolation. At twelve he encountered transgender content online and through people in his life, and the idea gradually formed that transitioning might be a way to escape the stigma he felt around being a gay boy in a conservative environment. After a referral from a family acquaintance, he and his mother visited a gender clinic where clinicians affirmed his fears about growing up gay and quickly directed him toward medical transition. By thirteen Jonni was placed on estrogen, testosterone blockers, and later puberty blockers. He lived as transgender through his teenage years while dealing with health problems, physical changes, and social difficulties. In his early twenties worsening side effects and new information about gender medicine led him to stop hormones and gradually detransition, concluding he likely would have grown up simply as a gay man if he had not been medicalized so young. Now working alongside fellow detransitioner Soren Aldaco, Jonni has become a new ambassador for Genspect. Although legal barriers have prevented him from pursuing a lawsuit, he now speaks publicly and advocates for policy changes to prevent similar medicalization of children and to encourage approaches centered on self-acceptance rather than transition. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please subscribe, comment, like and share!
