The Kitchen Dwellers | Cadillac Cowboy

It's Monday. Meet your new favorite band. One song called "Cadillac Cowboy" and suddenly the Basecamp had its first twang. Is it bluegrass? Is it jam? Does it matter? No, it was really good. Our latest Basecamp Session features Kitchen Dwellers, recorded live at RendezVan, an independent music festival in Bend, Oregon. Kitchen Dwellers are four guys from Bozeman, Montana. Shawn Swain on mandolin, Torrin Daniels on banjo, Joe Funk on bass, and Max Davies on acoustic guitar, all four of them singing. The Besties first caught them at Winter Wonder Grass, a winter roots festival in Colorado that should be on your bucket list. And listen, if you think bluegrass isn't your thing, Kitchen Dwellers are going to change your mind. They play it like a jam band. They feel like psychedelic rock. Their fans have called their sound "Galaxy Grass," which is honestly the most accurate thing we've ever heard. When your fans coin a genre name because the music world didn't have a word for it yet, you've got something special. Their community calls themselves "Dishwashers," a nod to the kitchen jam sessions where the band first started playing together. The crowd at a Kitchen Dwellers show ranges in age from their 20s to 60s, with a heavy Grateful Dead energy in the room. People who didn't even know they liked bluegrass, standing next to people who've followed the band for a decade. There is a reason they sell out Red Rocks. Live Music Besties is archiving artist and fan experiences shaping Americana, roots, and bluegrass right now. Subscribe for more from RendezVan and what's coming next.
