Kristoffer Helle - Pretenders - Chill Factor - Bass

The original bass player on this song is no other than TM Stevens. Many associate him with slap and pop playing but that is just one of the things he could do. TM was a solid player and could really elevate a song with his groove and playing. Many of those slap players can’t play for the song but he was the opposite of that. TM Stevens was the bass player in the Pretenders for a while and he is on my favorite Pretenders album Get Close from 1986. I really like his playing on this song and he is really in the pocket with drummer Blair Cunningham. When I watched this video after I recorded it I realize that in not in the pocket all the time. My mind is in the pocket but my right hand and arm is not. I guess that is one of the consequences of a broken arm. It takes time to heal. The song is written by Chrissie Hynde and she knows how to write a song. And as I always say: I don’t slap my bass and I don’t slap my wife.
