The complex is a fine example of eighteenth-century fort planning. It was surrounded by an outer fortification wall on the north and west sides. A continuous 1,800-meter-long fortification wall can be seen on the north side along the state highway, while smaller sections of the fortifications can be seen on the east side. Dense forests serve as natural defenses on the east and west sides. Remains of a moat are also visible on the south side. The Chambal River to the north and a creek in the foothills to the west made the fort's location even more favorable. The inner fortification wall is reinforced with 12 bastions and has five entrances. The north entrance serves as the main entrance to the fort and serves as a link between the outer and inner settlements. The inner fort contained the palace, residences for generals and nobility (Nawal Singh Haveli), and other ancillary buildings such as stables, a courthouse, and temples, while the rest of the settlement was located between the two fort walls. The settlement had numerous wells for water, located in both the inner and outer forts. Today the fort is in serious danger, as structural cracks are visible in many parts of the inner and outer fortifications and bastions.
