Clark Vasey, director of Blue Collar Conservatism, has delivered a scathing assessment of Andy Burnham’s vision for Labour, accusing him of selling a nostalgic “postcard of the past”. Vasey argues that Burnham’s plans for greater devolution would create more jobs for politicians rather than improve the lives of working people. He says Britain instead needs tax cuts, deregulation and a private sector capable of creating more employment. He also describes Keir Starmer’s legacy as “one of failure”, pointing to the number of young people outside education, employment or training and claiming that mass immigration has reduced access to entry-level jobs. Turning to the political right, Vasey acknowledges that Conservative failures—particularly over immigration—have driven voters towards Reform UK. However, he questions whether Reform has developed a sufficiently detailed programme on jobs, welfare and the cost of living.
