I rode my Unicycle from NYC to Canada | 700-Mile Solo Camping Adventure (Day 1)

DAY 1 of my 8-day SOLO-CAMPING trip from NEW YORK CITY to CANADA 🇨🇦 via the Empire State Trail! On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, I set out from my New York apartment toward Battery Park. The goal: ride the entire 700-mile Empire State Trail from NYC to the Canadian border and Niagara Falls. This first day covered roughly 100 miles, following the Hudson River Greenway in Manhattan, past the Little Red Lighthouse, through the Hudson Valley, across the Croton Reservoir Bridge, and deep into upstate New York. Night fell. After making the first charge stop in Brewster, I rode the final 20 miles in the dark, and set up camp at the Depot Hill Multiple Use Area in Holmes, NY. With no running water, I found and filtered drinking water using clues from a lake sign. It turned out that Whaley Lake connected to the Croton Aqueduct system, making the water good to drink. Rehydrated, I set up my Durston tent in the forest and ended my first day on the road.
