I also compare Cronos directly to The Callisto Protocol, explaining how it fixes many of that game’s core design issues, no forced dodge mechanics, more purposeful melee combat, and systems that embrace friction rather than fighting it. The heavy space suit combat, deliberate inventory management, and constant resource pressure all reinforce the survival horror experience instead of undermining it. The story avoids predictable twists and leans hard into psychological horror. As you progress, you can feel the character’s mental health unravel, with tension spiralling deeper the further you go. Fear here isn’t built on jump scares, it’s built on sustained dread that slowly exhausts the player and pulls you fully into the universe. Visually, Cronos: The New Dawn is absolutely stunning, one of the best-looking games I’ve ever played. I frequently had to stop just to take in the environments, lighting, and sheer scale of the world. Combined with a phenomenal synth-heavy soundtrack that gives strong “Upside Down” vibes, the presentation is unforgettable. I also touch on navigation, language, and immersion, including how speaking Polish enhanced my experience, as well as my single biggest criticism: the lack of an in-game map, which led to more backtracking than I would have liked.
