When The Saxophonist Breathes Pure FIRE! David Sanborn "Chicago Song" LIVE Transcription 1990
"Chicago Song" Live David Sanborn Full Sax Solo Transcription (Live Under The Sky 1990) Yet another killing solo by the legend David Sanborn, just crushing it on this raucous banger by Marcus Miller, Chicago Song. This was originally recorded on his 1987 album A Change Of Heart, which has some nice arrangements and background parts, but he brings it to another level on this Live version! The inimitable sound, the pocket, the energy and passion, the altissimo and the nasty split tones, as well as a couple special effects only a handful of people are able to pull off, and remember... this is LIVE, not in the studio. Unbelievable playing, and of course the entire band (Hiram Bullock, guitar, Buddy Williams, drums, Ricky Peterson, keys, Don Alias, percussion) , lays it down for him to shine and display wonderful chemistry together... ...and don't forget to check the original video ( • David Sanborn Group / Chicago Song (1990) ) to catch Tom Barney's awesome solo bass intro. He gets the entire crowd to participate, and the way the band enters one by one with that huge crowd cheering, you just can't believe it's an instrumental jazz performance. I started at the beginning of the solo, but I left the outro melody at the end, for fun. As usual I tried my best to indicate as many of the details of expression as possible. As it is so often with the greats, it's not WHAT you play but HOW you play it, and in my opinion Sanborn is a master of expression and stands out even amongst the all-time giants in this respect. Enjoy and listen deeply! PDF sheet music (including the beginning melody) available on my website: www.EladSobolMusic.com
