What's Thriving on Our Tropical Terrace at the Height of Summer | French Garden Tour 🌿 Salut les amis! Hi friends! Welcome back to another episode from the French countryside! Today we're spending some time on our Tropical Terrace to see what's thriving at the height of summer. Now that the heat wave is finally behind us (thank goodness!), many of our tropical plants have really taken off and are putting on beautiful new growth. Our Tropical Terrace is a little tropical nook tucked away on the north side of the house. Protected by the house wall, the greenhouse, a living wall of climbing clematis, and shaded beneath a large parasol, it creates the perfect microclimate for many of our more delicate tropical plants. Most of these plants spend the winter either inside our home or in our heated greenhouse, which we keep at approximately 9–10°C (48–50°F). The greenhouse performed beautifully this past winter, and it's wonderful to see everything waking up from dormancy and thriving once again. In this tour you'll see many of our favourite tropical plants, including: 🌿 Caladiums 🌿 Brugmansias 🌿 Abutilon 🌿 Gloriosa lilies 🌿 Avocado trees 🌿 Bougainvillea 🌿 Cycas revoluta (Sago Palm) 🌿 Phoenix roebelenii (Pygmy Date Palm) 🌿 Hedychiums (Ginger Lilies) 🌿 Tropical Hibiscus 🌿 Callistemon (Bottlebrush) 🌿 Crotons 🌿 Alocasias 🌿 Colocasias 🌿 Yuzu Citrus 🌿 Sicilian Lemon 🌿 Meyer Lemon 🌿 Mexican Lime 🌿 Geraniums …and many more tropical treasures! Although most of our citrus trees produced beautiful blossoms this spring, many of the tiny fruits dropped after flowering, so we're not expecting much of a citrus harvest this year. That's gardening—every season is a little different!
