Lake Shirakaba is a highland resort located at an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters, on the border between Chino City and Tateshina Town in Nagano Prefecture. Surrounded by the Tateshina Highlands, Kurumayama Highlands, and the scenic Venus Line, it is one of central Nagano's most popular destinations for outdoor recreation throughout the year. The route gradually climbs from the Suwa Basin, passing rural landscapes and forested hills before entering the cool highlands. After joining the Yugawa Bypass and the Daimon Road, the scenery transitions into open mountain landscapes, leading to the tranquil shores of Lake Shirakaba. This is one of the classic early summer drives in Shinshu.
